Someone has always had to administer a trust. Naming a family member or friend asks them to keep the records, file the taxes, and treat every beneficiary fairly, year after year. Most people have never done that job.
The work can last for years, and it's usually unpaid. Getting it wrong, even by accident, can create real conflict. We do it professionally so a family member doesn't have to, for good or just as backup.
